Apparently speed hacking

Tagged:

First off my steam name is tjigg1 and i was banned from css internode servers for apparently speed hacking. I get loads of lag spikes because of my wireless and im wondering how to unban myself. My lag spikes get pretty bad so much so that it seems i jump from one position to another and for a few seconds after that i am completely vulnerable. The few seconds after the lag spike is a major disadvantage as i can not move or shoot... I have no idea who said i was speed hacking but there is no possible way i can use lag spikes to my advantage. If anyone can help me that would be appreciated.

Chances are you are not banned at any truly large or significant organization (Steam VAC, Steambans, etc.), even if the (whoever these folks are) internode's CS:S server admins banned you.

The thing you need to keep in mind is that server admins will ALWAYS retain the right to ban whomever they choose to. They pay monthly rental fees for their servers, you spent $20 once for a game. I'm not saying server admins are supposed to be "a-holes", but I can tell you from both a player's perspective and also from an experienced gameserver admin perspective, it is not cool to have players on your server that you can't hit or that "warp" around because their internet connection is screwed up (or because they are rate hacking, or whatever the case may be).

While the results of your lag spikes may manifest in your situation as you being more vulnerable due to the game not registering your movements "smoothly", the corollary is that sometimes your model will suddenly "vanish" as viewed on other connected players' games and suddenly appear somehwere else nearby when some of your client updates finally do make it to the gameserver. This is VERY frustrating for people trying to shoot you, and people will often complain.

Personally, if we have a certain player that is _constantly_ having these types of issues when they are on one of our servers, we ban them too. It's not fair to the rest of the players on the server.

Don't believe everything you read about wireless networking. it's still just a radio signal.

If I were you, I'd dump the wireless connection if you really care about gaming with your internet connection. A network card and a network cable will set you back maybe $20 and unless your actual internet connection sucks (not just your wireless), all your problems should go away, and if you tell the internode folks you fixed your internet connection problem I wouldn't be surprised if they unban you if you ask them nicely.

Just my .02.
